John has been with the Times since 2005. In that time, the paper has concentrated on watchdog journalism and been a staple in news for Central Minnesota citizens. John will tackle important ethics issues for today’s journalists. In addition letting journalists know the dos and don’ts in many tough situations, he’ll look into the undefined world of social media. Join John and SPJ for this meaningful and useful discussion on ethics and social media. John will be open for any questions you have at the end.
Anchors and producers, this event is specifically catered to you!JJ is a know-it-all when it comes to the news business because he’s done nearly every position possible in TV News! In addition to his work at Midwest Emmys, JJ has carried news director, producer, photographer, and reporter positions at news stations all across the midwest. JJ will give attendees a total writing and speaking experience. The workshop will start out by teaching us how to write the perfect broadcast-style story. He will break down all of the elements and best techniques to catch viewers ears. After each attendee writes their sample story, the workshop will move down to UTVS studio 1 where everyone will read their freshly written story off the teleprompter with guidance of JJ.
Since this session will be longer than others, pizza will be provided during the writing session as a refreshment.
